Momentum Isn’t Magic. It’s Practice.

Week 7: Summer of Fearless Creation

If you have creative work in the hopper (or simply an idea!), you’re invited to learn and create alongside us this summer as we explore key concepts and actionable ideas to move creativity forward inspired by Dr. Eric Maisel’s book, Fearless Creating: A Step-by-Step Guide to Starting and Completing Your Work of Art” (affiliate link).

🎧 Start Here

Welcome To Week 7!✨

Why showing up is the real creative superpower

Last week, you made the leap: You started.

You faced the fog, the doubt, the blinking cursor and you did the thing.

Whether it was messy, thrilling, awkward, or just okay…You began. 🎉

Now comes the harder part:

Doing it again. And again. And again.

Missed Last Week?

💬 The Myth of Momentum

There’s a seductive myth in creative culture that once you start, you’ll magically keep going.

That if you just push past resistance once, you’ll become a non-stop creative machine.

But here’s the truth that Dr. Eric Maisel reminds us of:

Creative momentum isn’t a one-time win.
It’s a daily decision.

We don’t just start once.

We start again every morning, every afternoon, every moment we choose not to obsessively check our phones or reorganize our email folders or make a fourth cup of coffee.

🧠 Why Resistance Comes Back (And Why That’s Okay)

Each time you return to your work, a new version of fear might show up.

Not because you’re failing but because you’re evolving.

Today’s resistance might sound like:

  • “What if yesterday was a fluke?”

  • “What if it’s not getting better?”

  • “What if I just don’t feel like it?”

And yet, your job is the same as it was last week:

Start anyway.

Start imperfectly. Start briefly. Start badly.

But start.

🛠️ This Week’s Practice: The Gentle Tracker

Instead of aiming for massive progress, aim for daily presence.

Create a simple log for this week. Nothing fancy.

Just check off each day that you:
✅ Sat down
✅ Did the work (even a little)
✅ Honored the process

You don’t need long sessions or lightning bolts of inspiration.

You just need to show up long enough to catch the thread again.

💭 Reflection Prompt

What makes it harder to return? And what makes it easier?

Hint: Routine helps. Ritual helps. Having a reason helps.

But mostly? Compassion helps.

🧭 Coming Next...

In Week 8, we’ll talk about staying in the flow: The chaotic, imperfect, often magical state of working inside your project.

But for now, just ask yourself this:

Can I start again today?

The answer is always yes.
